About Me

n 1991 I started my journey into the world of photography. I was taking family portraits for friends and family, photographing landscape scenes and selling those prints to several professional businesses in the Chattanooga Market. These friends and family told me that I had a true talent with the camera, and suggested that I pursue a career in photography.

So, the adventure began. I signed up for photography courses, and I did learn techniques. But my true learning came with my own trial and error out in the field. With mistakes comes correction, you learn how it reacts, and then it all comes together.

Jim Jolley, Inc. now known as LifeTouch Studios hired me in 1994. Jim taught me things that will never be forgotten. He came to me one day, and said: “I see a true talent in you, and I want you to reach the top someday.” I’ve been in the business for over 30 years, and son, I learned something from you today.” This was coming from a man, seasoned to the industry that had taken my pictures from Elemtary School through High School. “Never stop learning” he said. “Whether you’re 21 or 70 never stop learning.” He helped me take that extra step in bringing a talent out in me. Jim passed away a few years ago, but what he said and done for me will live forever.

Since those days, I’ve worked for larger photography companies and some of the smaller ones. It’s not about the quantity; it’s all about the quality. There have been certain areas of photography that changed and sculpted my heart for photography. On three occasions I’ve had the opportunity and pleasure of photographing someone with a terminal illness. This was truly overwhelming, heart-wrenching, sad and joyous all in one package. To return with the photographs, to find that this loved-one passed on. I can’t even begin to explain how this affected me. One of these photographs ended up on a middle school wall, to give tribute to her life. This is when I really started seeing photography in a totally different way. It’s about the relationship, working with that one family or individual, and capturing those memories. This is what it’s all about.

Ten years ago, my family and I started vacationing in the Destin - Fort Walton area. The friendliness and outreach of others here is tremendous. I told my wife, “Wouldn’t it be nice to be a part of a community like this?” “And what a scene, what a backdrop to photograph families!” “I’d really like to get involved in beach portraits.” She said, “Well, do it!” We decided to make the move, the help that I’ve received; from people I hardly know has been so warming. There’s been several people make this possible for my family and me to relocate, and call the Gulf home. Heart felt sincerity!

After years of doing it others ways, learning from my experiences, I decided to do what I love to do, be a part of the Destin - Fort Walton Beach community. My family and I have made the Gulf our home, for me to be able to take those beautiful beach portraits. Make friends, and give the customer service that so many businesses are getting away from. I want to stand apart, letting it reflect in the work that I produce. These are the reasons that I’m building my own business, taking that extra step for you, my friends, my clients. Having you return each season for me to be a part of your beach portrait memories. To take part, and make a difference in this area.

Bringing quality and service into your home that will be shared with others for years to come. What started as a simple hobby has turned into a true passion for me. Give me the opportunity to put my experiences to work for you.

That’s why I say……… Scenic Portraits by David………. Capturing the moments…………… For a lifetime.
